A day at Disneyland, Hong Kong

This was one of the most exciting day for me. A 6 yrs old me ๐Ÿ˜Š was all geared up to meet her favorite cartoon characters. Mickey, Donald, Goofy and many more!! Welcome to the magical world of Disney. I know it is not ‘THE’ Disneyland, but it was my first Disney experience and I had a wonderful time.

Tickets

There are 2 options to choose from when you buy the tickets for Disneyland Hong Kong: One day or Two day pass. You can book tickets online through their website or through tour agents. You can check for tips to get cheap tickets in my previous post ‘Hong Kong Itinerary 3 days‘.

If you are going with kids, I would recommend buying the 2 day pass. If you are going with friends or as a couple, I believe 1 day should be good enough, it worked for me and my husband. We could cover all the rides, though we gave photo sessions with the cartoons ย a miss (it was mostly because of the long queues and the heat).

Getting there

Take Tsuen Wan line from Tsim Sha Tsui to Lai king, change to Tung Chung line to Sunny bay, finally change to Disneyland resort line. (Do check the routes if you are staying at other locations)

The last leg of the MTR journey from Sunny Bay to Disneyland is on a Disney-themed train ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Park Attractions

The park is divided into 5 sections: Toy story land, Adventureland, Main street, USA, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland

As soon as weย entered the main gate,ย we first met Mickey and Minnie waiting to take pictures. After queuingย for more thanย half an hour in scorching sun, we decided to skip this and move on to other attractions.

We reachedย Adventureland, to watch the “Festival of the Lion King” show. A theatrical show inspired by the Lion King movie with characters and other creatures performing acrobats, song, and dance performances in tribal attire and vibrant costumes. An Amazing show worth seeing.

Next we head to “The Golden Mickeys”ย which show cases manyย classic Disney stories.ย .ย  Experience all your favorite Disney stories come to life in this musical experience.

While the songs are in English, my only complaint was the dialogues between characters were in Chinese and the English subtitles are only on one screen at one side of auditorium.

Post lunch, we head to Main street to enjoy the “Flights of Fantasy Parade“. We did not spend too much time here as it was way too crowded.

We next went to ‘Its a Small Small world‘ at Fantasyland, aย classic boat ride featuring the children of the world.

Do not miss theย Mickeyโ€™s PhilharMagicย which isย a 3D showย with Mickey, Donald and troupe. It was a very cute show, I felt as if I was transported to my childhood when I would watch Mickey mouse cartoons on TV. Little kids will surely enjoy.

Sit in little honey pots and enjoy the cute ride at ‘The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” while solving yet another problem of dear old Pooh.

Disneyland is not complete without Sleeping beauty’s castle.ย Just look how pretty it is ๐Ÿ™‚

Scream, shout and enjoy the thrillingย RC car rideย which isย a โ€˜half loopโ€™ coaster rolling back and forth on the track.ย Once you reach the top, you can enjoy lovely views of the park.

Another thrilling ride here is the Parachute drop. We stood in queue for more than half an hour before giving up and moving onto next ride.

Next we reachedย The Grizzly Gulch. Here is one ride which is a must do-ย Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars.

After a quick bite at one of the food stalls, we moved to Tomorrowland for the crazy “Hyperspace Mountain” a roller coaster in dark which will make you feel that you are floating in outer space among stars and planets.

Mystic Manor is a trackless dark ride through the manor which is one of the best rides.

By this time, it was getting dark and we moved towards the Main Street USA for the ‘Disney Paint the Night” parade. A beautiful, colorful and vibrant road show put up by the Disney characters and numerous dancers.

It was not over yet.. we still had to wait for the grand finale. We had our dinner at anย Indian restaurant. Heavy rains did not deter the tourists who flocked the open space outside the Sleeping beauty castle to watch the Fireworks. It was like the sky had come to life.

Useful tips:

  1. Buy your tickets in advance to save time.
  2. Avoid going here onย weekend as the park gets super crowded. Apart from tourists, many locals have yearly passes and you will find them in the park on weekends.
  3. There are many cafes’ and restaurants offering variety of food including Chinese, Fast food and Indian cuisines.
