I usually write about itineraries and touristy places. This is my first blog about a hotel and there sure is a reason behind it. During my recent vacation in India, I went to Jaisalmer with my family. We were in an indulgent mood and come on!! we were in the land of royals. We had to experience the royal life and Suryagarh hotel was our perfect retreat. In this post, I would like to mention my experience at this magnificent hotel.
Location
Suryagarh hotel is not a real palace. However, the interiors, design and the whole feel is no less than a real one. The hotel is designed to look like a fort and sits on the threshold that looks towards the city of Jaisalmer on one side and provides undulating landscape of the Thar Desert on the other side.
I reached Jaisalmer by train from where it took about half an hour or so for us to reach the hotel by car. Make sure you pre-book your cabs for pick up at the railway station. There are local taxis available as well.
Rooms
We reached Jaisalmer at 5.00am by train from Jaipur. The hotel staff were very courteous and welcomed us with their warm smiles in the cold early morning and arranged a super early check-in for us. Big thanks to them. Just to add to our grand welcome, our rooms were upgraded to Suite rooms (Luxury and Signature). Both the rooms were super huge with a living room equipped with sofa, working table, TV and bedrooms which were huge as well equipped with a wardrobe, TV and bathroom. Bathrooms in both the rooms were gigantic 🙂 🙂
There are variety of room options to choose from the website.
Gardens
The hotel is surrounded by a series of sculptural gardens and courtyards. Champa Garden, Bawdi, Spa Garden, the Fossil hill, the Bageecha, Lake Garden to name a few.
Courtyards
The Central courtyard, Mehendi Terrace, Tulsi Aangan span the whole place with artistically carved jalis and jharokas, pillars and stone benches. Enjoy quiet moments under the sky in these airy spaces with dim lanterns, colorful flowers setting the perfect mood.
Recreational activities
Neel- The hotel is equipped with an indoor swimming pool which is very tastefully designed.
Akhara- There is a state of the art gymnasium for the workout enthusiast.
Taash- For some relaxation with the family, card games and billiard table is available in this room.
Rait- After all the exploring the mesmerizing beauty of this place, you can relax at the spa.
Music and Entertainment
As the sun sets over the beautiful Desert, the staff will light up the entire place with beautiful lanterns and prepare the outdoor seating for the evening entertainment.
Mehboob Khan and his family of Manganiyars made sure our evening was well spent with sufi songs and traditional dance. Open bar was set up to keep the guests entertained with their favorite drinks and snacks. PS: it can get quite chilly as the evening progresses, make sure you are well prepared to beat the cold desert winds.
Dining
Nosh is the all day dining restaurant while The Legend of Marwar is a specialty restaurant celebrating the culinary heritage of Marwad. Draksh bar provides perfect ambiance for some delightful drinks.
We had a lovely dinner in the central courtyard, under the open sky. The head manager personally visited each table to make everyone welcome. The waiters did a splendid job in making us feel very royal.
Breakfast was again in the open courtyard. It was a buffet spread having variety of local and western options to choose from. We were joined by 2 beautiful friends as well.
A flute artist made our breakfast experience even lovely with his enchanting music.
Apart from the regular hotel amenities, the hotel also provides various Desert packages which can be chosen from the website.
After a really relaxing stay at Suryagarh, it was time to check-out and carry on with our itinerary. We thank the entire staff of Suryagarh for making our stay such a memorable and exquisite experience.
